Custom Carved Gun Stock For Mule Deer Foundation Banquet

Custom Carved Gun Stock For Mule Deer Foundation Banquet

This year I have been given a very unique opportunity to custom carve a gun stock for the Mule Deer Foundation. The custom carved/engraved gun stock shown above is for one of the banquet coming up in May 2011. I believe this gun is to be raffled off during one of the banquets here in Utah. Everyone will have to attend their banquet to see which region gets to raffle off this gun for one of its members. Will it be YOU???

I have custom carved/sculpteda mule deer on the butt stock of the gun, as well as inlay-ed the MDF logo on the end of the grip. The art work for this gun has been custom designed for the MDF and hand painted by me. This gun has been signed and dated with the year I have carved it. Your children will fight over who gets this gun when you pass it from one generation to the next. Not to mention any gun collector will chomp at the bit to get the chance to add this gun to their collections.

There will be one more gun stock carved by me this year for the MDF. This will go on for the next eight years. You will have to check here often to see if I have completed another gun for the MDF. Good luck to everyone who attends the banquets. I’m looking forward to seeing who the winner will be for this custom carved gun stock! Happy Hunting!!! Deb

Custom Carved Henry 17 HMR

Custom Carved Henry 17 HMR

This custom carved Henry Repeating Arms.17 HMR was a Christmas present for my father. When I began carving/sculpting guns, my dad showed a lot of interest in my abilities. He would take my business cards around to everyone he knew to brag on me. It seemed quite silly to me at the time. That he would do this for me. Then last Thanksgiving, my mother asked me what I thought he would like for Christmas? See, my father owns a few guns but no longer hunts, due to his health. I know he always enjoyed going and he has always owned some guns. My mother on the other hand, hates guns. She knows how to shoot and can out shoot many men. Still, she doesn’t like them at all. So, when I mentioned to her she should buy dad a new gun. You can imagine what the response was. Then dad told her how much he would like to have a gun like Allen’s, (my husband) Henry .17 HMR. Well, mom called me and asked if I could get her a gun for dad. WOW! what a surprise that was. When we gave the gun to dad he was very happy. Then I told him I would be custom carving a design on the gun for him. Dad had tears in his eyes. I knew then I had picked the right present for father.

After Christmas, Dad picked out the picture he wanted on the gun stock. Then the designing began! After hours of drawing, cutting, and erasing I finally found a pattern that would compliment the gun. I then molded the design into clay. Also, changing more of the pattern to fit the gun. Then I started carving the design onto sample pieces of wood. This process also required more changes. Finally the pattern was ready for the gun stock. When I started carving the gun stock, the pattern just seemed to appear. It wasn’t difficult by any means. It was like this pattern was just meant to be on this gun stock.

After finishing the carving, I began playing with colors. The more I played the more fun it became to see the picture emerge and take shape. But the best part of this entire project was when I placed the gun back in my father’s hands and watched him look at the gun for the first time. You could see how proud he was to own a gun as beautiful as this one. See, Dad is a welder by trade but he is a carpenter at heart. So for me to custom carved a gun for him was a real thrill. For him, having the gun stock custom carved is one thing, but to have it  custom carved by his daughter was a totally different matter. I truly do not remember being more proud of what I do then at that moment. Thanks Dad for allowing me to custom carve this gun stock for you!

The gun has been custom carved/sculpted, and hand painted. Gun collectors alike would enjoy having this gun in their collection. This gun will be handed down from generation to generation of this I am sure. Not to mention the bragging rights of owing a custom carved gun stock by Deb Lindsay. This gun will be on display at the up coming Western Art Rodeo Association first ever art show on April 29, 30, 2011 at the Sundance Resort. I do hope everyone that can attend will do so. While you are there, please look me up. I would really enjoy meeting you. We can talk about designing a custom carved/sculpted gun stock for you.

Custom Carved Gun Stock For the Friends of the SNF NRA

Custom Carved Gun Stock For the Friends of the SNF NRA

This gun is a custom carved gun stock for the Friends of the SNF NRA (Southern Nevada Friends of the NRA). It is being donated to help them raise money for their chapter of the NRA. I met this chapter of the NRA when I was in Las Vegas at the International Sporting Arms gun show last January 2011. They where looking for something very unique to help raise money for their local chapter. I have enjoyed working with them on this project. It will be interesting to see who wins this custom carved/sculpted gun stock. The gun will be of collector quality. Gun collectors alike will be after this gun for years to come. It is signed by Deb Lindsay, wood sculptor. The gun will be at their 2011 banquet this coming April. Be sure you are there to get your name in on this drawing. Who knows, you might be the lucky winner! Here is a link where you can purchase a ticket to attend their upcoming event. http://www.friendsofnra.org/StateHome.aspx?sid=29&sc=NV

The gun has been custom carved/sculpted and inlayed with ivory. The letters and figure are all outlined in composit ivory. The gun stock has also been hand painted to enhance the ivory and custom carving/sculpture. The picture you see above is the pattern I am using to custom carve/sculpt this gun stock. I will be adding pictures of the finished gun stock by the end of the week. Good luck to all who enter the drawing for this gun! Deb

Custom Carved Gun Stock Savage .22 Cal

Custom Carved Gun Stock Savage .22 Cal

This project has taken a while to start, but the finished out come will be worth it. A custom carved gun stock for a Savage model 29. Yes, it is an old gun. I have been asked to carve/engrave a squirrel sitting on the branch of a tree on this gun stock. The pictures above are just a few I have found that I am considering. Which one should I use? Hmmmm Guess you will have to check back later to see which one I used.  The gun stock is smaller then a normal rifle. This might prove to be some what of a challenge. Carving/engraving a smaller gun stock means doing everything smaller than I normally do. Still, the gun stock will be custom carved/engraved and then I will hand paint the art work to bring out the detail. This gun has been handed down from generation to generation. I am sure it will continue to through the family for many more years to come. Well, here I go! I can’t wait to get started!

Pictures will be coming soon of the finished custom carved/engraved gun stock.

Happy Carving! Deb

Custom Carved Henry Big Boy .45LC

Custom Carved Henry Big Boy .45LC

The third carving for December 2011 is a custom carved Henry Big Boy .45LC. This gun was commissioned by the “GS Electric” companies employees. They wanted to give a custom carved gun with the companies logo to their boss Gary Sorensen.

The “G & S” and the lightening bolt is a white composite ivory inlayed, along with the yellow which is also composite ivory inlay. I carved the white first, making it stand up higher then the rest of the gun. Then I carved the yellow flush with the gun stock. Yes, it was a challenge to not hit the white while carving the yellow.

The Gary’s signature was added and inlayed to match his company name. The date his business was opened was also included under the logo. The employees who purchased this for Gary had me add their initials to the grip of the gun. Something to remember them by.

After completing the carving and inlay. The gun did not look complete, (see the above picture). The word “Electric” did not stand out like it should. You see, at first I did not paint the letters of “Electric”. Originally the employees wanted the word “Electric” to be black along with the date the company was established and their initials. After the gun was finished, you could not see the full name of the company. So, I hand painted the letters of the word “Electric” white but made sure the paint went down deep in the gun. I did not inlay this part of the gun. I think it gives the gun the depth needed to complete the scene. The first picture at the top of this page will show you the final results.

I’m sure this gun will be hung on the wall of their business for years to come. It is a very unique one of a kind addition to any gun enthusis’ collection. Merry Christmas Gary! I hope you enjoy your gun. Deb

Custom Carved Kitchen Signs

Custom Carved Kitchen Signs

This custom carved kitchen sign was created for my mother. I recently helped her tile her back splash in her kitchen. After doing so, she decided she needed a new sign to go above her kitchen sink. My dad winked at me and then called me to come out to his garage. He handed me a piece of hickory that was already sculpted on the edges and said, “Here ya go!” I don’t remember if I had asked him if he had a piece of wood or if he just gave it to me and expected me to carve something neat on it.

Either way, the sign was made. I have inlayed composite ivory for the lettering. Then the leaves where custom carved/sculpted into the hickory wood. Last I hand painted the leaves to match her decor in her kitchen. I wonder just how long this sign will hand before she asked for another one?

Christmas day came with a big surprise for mom. She loves her sign and made sure to have Dad hang it up the minute they got home. Thanks for allowing me to create something special for you. Love you mom. Deb
