Custom Carved Thompson Center .50 cal Muzzleloader

Custom Carved Thompson Center .50 cal Muzzleloader

The final piece for  December 2011 was a custom carved Thompson Center .50 cal muzzleloader. This gun stock has turned out spectacularly if I do say so myself! The gun is another Christmas gift from a girl friend to her special guy. WOW, what a present huh?

I was commissioned to create this one of a kind master piece. I was told he liked eagles. So, on the hunt I went to find the right pattern for this gun stock. The pattern I decided on is of our National bird the Bald Eagle. The man this gun has been custom carved for is an ex airforce man, thus making this treasure very meaningful for him.

I have custom carved/engraved one other bird which was also a bald eagle. Both turned out beautifully. This gun was fitted with a custom pattern, carved with all the detail I could put in such a small space. Then hand painted to bring out all that wonderful detail. Giving this gun a very unique look. I have been told it already has a place of honor in his home. I wonder if he will hand down this gun to his children. It would make a very unique heirloom. I’m sure his hunting buddies will be jealous. I have included some history of this gun. Read the rest of this entry »

Custom Carved Mule Deer Foundation Gun Stock

Custom Carved Mule Deer Foundation Gun Stock

This gun stock is custom carved for the Mule Deer Foundation. It is to be raffled off at the International Sportsman’s Expo this coming 2012, in Salt Lake City. This gun stock was quite fun to create. I found a picture of the deer on an old calendar. After playing with the picture I decided to carve it for the MDF this year.

The gun stock fits a Weatherby rifle. It has been custom carved/sculpted with three mule deer all of different ages. I have also hand painted the scene to bring out even more of the detail. On the bottom of the grip I have inlayed the MDF logo in composite ivory.

The lucky winner will be drawn during the International Sportsman’s Expo. You will have to check the MDF magazine to find out more details regarding this raffle. I’m sure whom ever the lucky winner is will enjoy this gun and will enjoy handing this gun down to their children and their children’s children for generations to come. It is a one of a kind master piece which any gun collector would be more then happy to add to their gun collection. Below is a little history of the Weatherby company. Read the rest of this entry »

Custom Carved Marlin 30-30

Custom Carved Marlin 30-30

Custom carved Marlin 30-30 is a gun everyone knows about. A sure fire and very accurate gun to shoot. This gun belonged to my late father-in-law, Bob. He was an avid hunter with a VERY deadly aim. He was known around the Basin for his marksmanship. I am very proud to be given the opportunity to carve this design onto Bob’s gun. Thanks Mom!

I found this picture of the elk on the back of a truck window. It struck me as something my father-in-law would have liked. As I was carving/sculpting this design my mind was wondering. I remember thinking the name of this piece will be “Whispers of time” In the foothills, the wind whispers through the trees, creating a mournful wail. The “King” answers with a warning “They’re mine now!” Then, the thought came to put and elk’s horns that had been shed on the forend of the gun stock. Giving the illusion of a King that once was.

This gun stock has been custom carved/sculpted with a bull elk protecting his herd. The gun has been hand painted and signed. It is a one of a kind master piece. I know this gun will never leave the family. It will be handed down from generation to generation. Many stories will be told around the campfire of how Grandpa was an exceptional marksman, and how he loved to hunt.

Thanks again Mom for allowing me to carve this story into this gun for our family. Deb

Gun History

I have included the history of the Marlin 30-30. I hope you enjoy reading about this gun.

The .30-30 Winchester/.30 Winchester Center Fire/7.62×51mmR cartridge was first marketed in early 1895 for the Winchester Model 1894 lever-action rifle.[2] The .30-30 (thirty-thirty), as it is most commonly known, was the USA’s first small-bore, sporting rifle cartridge designed for smokeless powder. The .30-30 is one of the most common deer cartridges in North America. Popular in Mexico and Latin America, it is known there as the treinta-treinta.[3] Read the rest of this entry »

Each gun has been custom carved or (custom engraving) and hand painted to bring out the detail. There is no two guns alike! All of the guns have gone up in value after being carved. Gun collectors and appraisers will tell you the gun has doubles and even triples in price. Some have grown even more in value. Still, all of the clients I have carved for this year tell me their gun will never leave their hands. They will be handed down through the generations. What a legacy they will leave for their children.

Custom Carved Weatherby Mark V

Custom Carved Weatherby Mark V

This is a very unique custom carved Weatherby Mark V gun stock. As you can see, this gun has been designed, custom carved, and hand painted with the beautiful “Martha Lisa” iris. This flower was developed by the owners in-laws and named after the owners wife. I have always wanted to carve flowers on a gun. Now I have and it has turned out as beautiful as I had hoped it would. I have carved the Iris along with oak leaves. The forend and grip of this gun already had oak leaves laser cut into the gun. The owner wanted me to carry this theme to the rest of the gun. This gun will be used on the upcoming deer hunt scheduled for this weekend and next. Gun collectors and enthusiast’s will be very envious of this gun. The value has increased to over double the guns value after having this gun stock custom carved. This gun will be hung in a place of honor, after the last deer hunt that is. I’m sure this gun will be handed down from generation to generation.

Good luck on the hunt!!! I’m sure you will get a big one!

Recently I posted a blog with the history of this gun. If you missed this post, you can read it again. Here is the link for the history on this gun.  Link for the Weatherby Mark V history: http://deblindsaystudios.com/custom-carved-weatherby-mark-v/

Custom Carved Savage Model 99

Custom Carved Savage Model 99

Custom carved Savage Arms Model 99 is my next project. As I’m sure every gun collector knows, this gun was discontinued years ago. It is a very nice gun to shoot. Very accurate and dependable. I have been asked to carve a moose with the Hibiscus flower on this gun. This is a Christmas present for one of my clients wife. She has no idea she is receiving this gun. Many men would never think of giving a gun to his wife. Unless you are like this family. All are avid hunters and enjoy getting out and being in the outdoors. This gun will have a beautiful moose scene carved on the gun stock. It will be outlined with the Hibiscus flower. The forend and grip will have the basket weave along with something else to enhance the design. You will have to check back to see what gun stock art has been put on the grip and forend. The custom carving is all hand finished along with the hand painting that accentuates the detail of the carving. Gun collectors world wide will be envious of this gun. I’m sure it will be handed down from generation to generation. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to leave them below. Happy Halloween! Deb

The company makes a variety of rimfire and centerfire rifles, as well as marketing the Stevens single-shot rifles and shotguns. They may be best-known for the Model 99 hammerless lever-action rifle, no longer in production, and the very popular .300 Savage sporting cartridge, which was the parent case for the .308 Winchester cartridge.

The Model 99, and its predecessor models 1895 and 1899, are a series of lever action rifles created by the Savage Arms Company in Utica, New York. Read the rest of this entry »

Custom Carved Greener Replica Coach Gun

Custom Carved Greener Replica Coach Gun

(Picture found on the web. This is not the actual gun I will be carving.)

I have found my next project. After many people have asked to see the W. W. Greener shot gunor coach gun I carved last year. I decided I would custom carve  another Greener replica shot gun. This gun will have an old abandoned stagecoach on the gun stock. I will be hand painting the scene as well. As to the forend and grip of this gun. I have not determined if I will add a custom carved design to these areas. Time will tell… This gun will make a fantastic addition for any gun collector. Not to mention it will preserve our history.

If you are interested in learning more about the W. W. Greener guns. You can read what I have written in an earlier blog post http://deblindsaystudios.com/carved-greener-shotgun/ .  Normally, I find a lot of my information on the gun manufacturers web site. I also use the www.wikipedia.com web site. Here is discussion board I recently found. You can post your comments and other people can respond to you. This particular discussion board is on the W. W. Greener Shotgun.

I don’t know how many other people enjoy learning about the history of guns, but I find it very fascinating. Guns have helped us throughout history. History has proven guns are a large part of our past. Have you ever wondered where we would be without them?

Pictures will be posted as I complete this project. Thanks for checking back and for your comments. Happy carving! Deb

Gunstock Carving Ruger M77 Mark II 300 Mag

Gunstock Carving Ruger M77 Mark II 300 Mag

Here is the before picture of the next gunstock to be carved. I will be carving an Alaskain moose on the stock with the fish scale on the grip and forend. As I’m sure you are aware, this gun is meant to bring down large game. For this reason I have chose the moose to grace the gunstock. I believe this will make this gun a very unique custom gunstock carving. Again, I have found some interesting history about this gun. I have listed what I have found below.

The Ruger M77 is a bolt-action rifle produced by Sturm, Ruger & Company. It was designed by Jim Sullivan during his three years with Ruger. The rifle features a traditional Mauser-style two-lugged bolt with a claw extractor.

Design details

From the beginning, the Ruger M77 was intended as a modernized Mauser 98, though numerous changes were made. Bill Ruger wanted to use investment casting in place of a forged receiver. The Sullivan-designed bolt dispensed with controlled-round feeding and instead used the simpler plunger style of ejector. A two-position tang safety and redesigned trigger system were also designed from scratch. Read the rest of this entry »

GUNSTOCK CARVING ON THIS WINCHESTER 308

GUNSTOCK CARVING ON THIS WINCHESTER 308

While attending one of the many gun shows my husband and I frequent each year. We found several guns that, in my opinion, needed help. We purchased this Winchester .308 model 88 rifle. I chose to put a gunstock carving on this Winchester 308 because the stock was in desperate need of being refinished. There are several deep nicks and scratches on the butt of the gun. Along with the fact, someone has applied several coats of varnish to the stock. I would venture to guess they where trying to cover up the large scratches in the stock. In doing this, they have filled in the original checkering on the grip and forend of the gun. Thus making the gun look like the checkering is almost warn off.

I have stripped the stock of the old varnish, carve mountain goats on the stock, carve the basket weave pattern on the grip and the forend of the stock. As well as painted the carved sceen to bring it to life even more.

The history or background of the gun I am carving has become a very intersting past time for me. Here is some of the history I have found of the Winchester rifle. I hope you enjoy reading about the gun as much as I have. (If the pictures do not load. Please right click on the picture and choose “show picture”).
