Custom Carved International Sportsman’s Expo. If anyone doesn’t know by now, the International Sportsman’s Expo is going to be held in Salt Lake City, UT at the South Town Expo center. The show will be starting this Thursday, March 17, 2011, at noon. I will have a booth there displaying my custom carved guns and taking orders for YOUR very own custom carved gun stock. Please come and visit me at the expo. I would really enjoy meeting you and discussing the design you would like me to carve on your gun stock.

All of my guns have a custom carved/sculpted scene, (some with the basket weave pattern) and are hand painted. Each gun is a one of a kind work of art. Collectors, nationwide, have begun collecting my guns. Why not have your gun customized with your favorite hunting scene or memory. You will want to hand this gun down from generation to generation. Not to mention the “double” bragging rights you will have. Bragging rights #1 – the actual hunt. Bragging rights #2 – your own custom carved gun stock with your favorite hunting scene.

This project has taken a while to start, but the finished out come will be worth it. A custom carved gun stock for a Savage model 29. Yes, it is an old gun. I have been asked to carve/engrave a squirrel sitting on the branch of a tree on this gun stock. The pictures above are just a few I have found that I am considering. Which one should I use? Hmmmm Guess you will have to check back later to see which one I used.  The gun stock is smaller then a normal rifle. This might prove to be some what of a challenge. Carving/engraving a smaller gun stock means doing everything smaller than I normally do. Still, the gun stock will be custom carved/engraved and then I will hand paint the art work to bring out the detail. This gun has been handed down from generation to generation. I am sure it will continue to through the family for many more years to come. Well, here I go! I can’t wait to get started!

This weekend is the International Sporting Arms gun show in Las Vegas Nevada. It is being held at the Riviera Hotel. This gun show is being sponsored by the NRA. The International Sporting Arms gun show is one of the largest gun shows in the nation. The show will be held January 14th through the 16th. There will be every type of gun imaginable there. Not to mention the gun collectors. I will have some of the guns I have custom carved/engraved there.

This year I will be attending the show as a vendor. At my booth you will be able to see the custom carved/engraved gun stocks I have completed. Each gun has been custom designed and sculpted, then hand painted to enhance the detail. There will be custom carved gun stocks, display cases, wall sculptures and ivory inlays for my clients to view. The guns have many different patterns on them, such as, basket weave, sculpted leaves, and hand painted art,  to name a few. There will also be a few gun there that I have repaired.

Happy New Years everyone!!! I sure hope everyone has enjoyed this holiday season. Today I have been thinking about the goals I would like to accomplish with my custom carved gun stocks this year. In doing so, it has given me a chance to looked back on the goals I have accomplished last year. It still amazes me how many goals I was accomplished. So, for this reason I am going to set goals for my custom carving even higher this year. The first one is to attend 3 major gun shows within this year.

I am scheduled to be a vendor at the upcoming Las Vegas Antique Arms Show™International Sporting Arms Show™ Invitational Knifemakers Showing™ in Las Vegas NV. The show will be held at the Riviera Hotel on January 14th thru January 16th, 2011. The show is being sponsored by the NRA (National Rifle Association). I will be there with several of the guns I have listed here on my web site. Some of the other guns being displaying have been borrowed from my customers who love to show them off. This Las Vegas Antique Arms Show™ International Sporting Arms Show™ Invitational Knifemakers Show™ should prove to be the best of the year. I am looking forward to meeting many new people.

Gun collectors and enthusis’ alike will be there. As I’m sure you know by  now, my gun stocks are all hand carved/engraved and hand painted. Each design has first been molded into clay then many practice pieces are carved/engraved before I start on the final piece. This process helps me to insure the custom carving will look exactly like it should on each gun stock. Customers who have purchased wood sculpting/carving/engraving from me in the past are simply amazed at the detail and clarity each piece has. Come to the gun show and judge for yourself. Then you can see why everyone who looks at the pictures on my web site all say “the pictures do not do justice to the art on the guns.” Wouldn’t you like to hand down your guns from generations to generation?

Last gun of the year for me is the custom carved Greener replica coach gun. After carving/sculpting the W. W. Greener replica stage coach gun last December, I really wanted to do a coach gun for myself. Well, here is it! This stage coach is an abandon stage coach. It symbolizes how we are loosing out past. The history of the Wells Fargo Stage Lines are written in our history book an in the movies. It is sad to see  how these beautiful works of machinery are all but gone now. Thank goodness for Wells Fargo and their willingness to preserve the history and maintain their fleet of stage coaches. At least our children will have the opportunity to visit their museum to learn about them. As well as, being able to see the horses hooked up to these beautiful coaches. Thank you Wells Fargo!

As you can see I have hand carved the stage coach onto this coach gun. I have chosen not to add the basket weave to this gun. I have hand painted the gun stock to bring out even more of the detail. I am adding this gun to my collection of Wells Fargo Commemorative collection. Gun collectors and enthuses alike will appreciate the detail of this gun. This gun and many of my other guns will be on display at the Antique Arms show in Las Vegas this coming January. The show will be January 14 – 16, 2010 at the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas, NV. At this time of year, I would like to share my custom carved Thanksgiving with you.  I find myself giving thanks for everything in my life. This year is no exception. Thanksgiving for me is a special time to get together with family and friends. Share memories and catch up on what’s going on in each others lives. Then there is also the FOOD!!!! We can’t forget the food or the game on TV! Still, it is a good time to stop and reflect on what has happened on my life over the past year. I have included the link to the original blog post. I want to tell everyone who viewed or commented on my web site, THANK YOU! My custom carved gun stocks have been a very rewarding part of my life. I’m sure without your support and comments, I would not ventured out to share my carvings with world. Each of you have enriched my life in so many ways. I find myself getting up in the mornings just to run in the office to see who has sent me a comment or an email. I enjoy sharing my custom carved gun stocks with you. From the actual design to the basket weave on to the hand painted art work. I thought I would start something new this year. I am going show all the guns I have completed each year. So bare with me while I list them all for you to view again. Each client I have carved a gun stock for this year can now show them off again. Its your turn to brag on your gun stock carving! Here you can show off your custom carved, hand painted art work I have carved for you.

Each gun has been custom carved or (custom engraving) and hand painted to bring out the detail. There is no two guns alike! All of the guns have gone up in value after being carved. Gun collectors and appraisers will tell you the gun has doubles and even triples in price. Some have grown even more in value. Still, all of the clients I have carved for this year tell me their gun will never leave their hands. They will be handed down through the generations. What a legacy they will leave for their children.

Have we lost our heritage? How many people have given this any thought? I for one have. While custom carving this coach gun shot gun, I began wondering this very thing. With out Wells Fargo Bank to carry on the tradition of using the stagecoachs for their advertising. We would have lost this beautiful image years ago. The old west is fast becoming lost to our modern ways of life.

The picture above is a very rough carving of the pattern to be put on the coach gun.

This is yet another reason I decided to carve the abandoned stage coach on the ICA coach gun. Not only will this custom carved coach gun preserve the memories and the history of the old west. It also adds trememdous value to any gun collector’s personal collection. This gun will be hand carved and hand painted. There will not be enough room for the basket weave pattern to be put on this gun. Is this something that you are looking for on your gun? Just want to wish everyone a wonderful custom carved labor day weekend! It amazes me the year is two thirds over. Before we know it we will be celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, then the New Year! It continues to amaze me how fast the year flys by when you are having fun. Is anyone ready for Christmas this year? I have been thinking I would start on my Christmas list for my family and friends. At least I will start at the end of the month. LOL

I am looking forward to this month and have been for most of the year. I am scheduled to go to my first gun show. It will be held in Salt Lake City, Ut, at the South Town Expo Center. This gun show will be held on September 25 & 26, 2010. I will have about 12 guns on display and many of those guns will be for sale. This is a great opportunity to come and see for yourself what they look like in person. Not to mention placing your order for a custom carved gun stock of your own. Maybe you are interested in having a gun stock carved for someone special in your life. This is the newest project on my list. It is a Remington 6mm Model 788. This type of gun is considered a varmint gun. I will be putting a custom carved big horned ram. I will also be putting the basket weave on the gun stock. I will be uploading pictures of this project as I complete the carving. This gun will be for sale at the Cross Roads of the West Gun Show in Salt Lake City, Ut. This gun show will be held on September 25 & 26, 2010 at the South Town Expo Center. History on the Remington 6mm

The 6mm Remington was introduced by Remington Arms Company in 1955 as the .244 Remington. It is based on necking down the .257 Roberts. Originally intended as a Varmint and predator cartridge, the .244 was never factory loaded with bullets over 90 grains. Rifles marked .244 Remington have a 1 in 12-inch (300 mm) twist that may not stabilize the heavier 100 and 105 grain bullets. Originally Remington offered factory ammunition with 75 grain bullets for varmints and 90 grain for deer. In 1963 Remington renamed the cartridge, calling it the 6mm Remington. Rifles marked 6mm Remington have a 1 in 9-inch (230 mm) twist and can stabilize all commercially available 6 mm bullets.

The 6mm Remington has a slight ballistic advantage over the much more popular .243 Winchester due to a slightly larger case capacity. The longer case neck of the 6mm Remington is considered desirable by handloaders. Noted Alabama deer hunter and marksman Creath Davis is a proponent of this caliber.

Its renaming from “.244 Remington” to “6mm Remington” is interesting. It was discovered soon after its release as .244 Remington that in the Remington Model 721 rifles the rate of twist used in the barrels would not stabilize heavier bullets weighing more than 90 grains. This led to a poor reputation for the cartridge as being “inaccurate.” Remington soon increased the rate of twist in its Model 721 rifles, but the marketability damage was already done as far as the cartridge was concerned. Therefore the name was changed to 6 mm Remington. The .244 Remington and the 6 mm Remington are identical – only the name changed.

How can I get my gun stock custom carved? This is a questions I have been receiving for months now. Or What designs can I have carved on a gun stock? There are many other questions too. Normally, I will talk to you for a while to find out what your interests are. Then I can suggest some ideas to you. Or if you have a picture you like. A hunting trip you have gone on you remember. These are all ideas you can draw from to decide on your custom gun stock carving.

Do you like the basket weave design on the forend and/or grip of the gun? Do you like leaves, horns, hooves, tree limbs, or scroll work? How much of your gun stock would you like carved (butt stock, forend, reverse side of butt stock, grip)? Is your gun stock in need of refinishing? Do you have some large scratches? Is the gun stocks finish pealing? Do you want your design painted? There are so many thing you can do to your gun stock. It all really depends on what much you would like to see on your gun stock and how much of the gun stock either needs refinished or how much you would like to have carved. All of these things are what helps me determine the design that will go on your custom carved gun stock.

Each custom carved gun stock if unique and deserve my full attention. Not only to the detail but to the scene as well as the design of the scene being put on the gun stock. Its a passion to me to create a one of a kind work of art for each client I have. I look forward to working on your design and to carving it for you.
