Custom Carved Gun Stock For the Friends of the SNF NRA

This gun is a custom carved gun stock for the Friends of the SNF NRA (Southern Nevada Friends of the NRA). It is being donated to help them raise money for their chapter of the NRA. I met this chapter of the NRA when I was in Las Vegas at the International Sporting Arms gun show last January 2011. They where looking for something very unique to help raise money for their local chapter. I have enjoyed working with them on this project. It will be interesting to see who wins this custom carved/sculpted gun stock. The gun will be of collector quality. Gun collectors alike will be after this gun for years to come. It is signed by Deb Lindsay, wood sculptor. The gun will be at their 2011 banquet this coming April. Be sure you are there to get your name in on this drawing. Who knows, you might be the lucky winner! Here is a link where you can purchase a ticket to attend their upcoming event. http://www.friendsofnra.org/StateHome.aspx?sid=29&sc=NV

The gun has been custom carved/sculpted and inlayed with ivory. The letters and figure are all outlined in composit ivory. The gun stock has also been hand painted to enhance the ivory and custom carving/sculpture. The picture you see above is the pattern I am using to custom carve/sculpt this gun stock. I will be adding pictures of the finished gun stock by the end of the week. Good luck to all who enter the drawing for this gun! Deb

Custom Carved Gun Stock Savage .22 Cal

Custom Carved Gun Stock Savage .22 Cal

This project has taken a while to start, but the finished out come will be worth it. A custom carved gun stock for a Savage model 29. Yes, it is an old gun. I have been asked to carve/engrave a squirrel sitting on the branch of a tree on this gun stock. The pictures above are just a few I have found that I am considering. Which one should I use? Hmmmm Guess you will have to check back later to see which one I used.  The gun stock is smaller then a normal rifle. This might prove to be some what of a challenge. Carving/engraving a smaller gun stock means doing everything smaller than I normally do. Still, the gun stock will be custom carved/engraved and then I will hand paint the art work to bring out the detail. This gun has been handed down from generation to generation. I am sure it will continue to through the family for many more years to come. Well, here I go! I can’t wait to get started!

Pictures will be coming soon of the finished custom carved/engraved gun stock.

Happy Carving! Deb

Custom Carved International Sporting Arms Gun Show

Custom Carved International Sporting Arms Gun Show

This weekend is the International Sporting Arms gun show in Las Vegas Nevada. It is being held at the Riviera Hotel. This gun show is being sponsored by the NRA. The International Sporting Arms gun show is one of the largest gun shows in the nation. The show will be held January 14th through the 16th. There will be every type of gun imaginable there. Not to mention the gun collectors. I will have some of the guns I have custom carved/engraved there.

This year I will be attending the show as a vendor. At my booth you will be able to see the custom carved/engraved gun stocks I have completed. Each gun has been custom designed and sculpted, then hand painted to enhance the detail. There will be custom carved gun stocks, display cases, wall sculptures and ivory inlays for my clients to view. The guns have many different patterns on them, such as, basket weave, sculpted leaves, and hand painted art,  to name a few. There will also be a few gun there that I have repaired.

I hope everyone will have a chance to come by and see the designs and sculptures. I look forward to meeting and visiting with each of you while you are there. See you at the gun show! Deb

Custom Carved Henry Big Boy .45LC

Custom Carved Henry Big Boy .45LC

The third carving for December 2011 is a custom carved Henry Big Boy .45LC. This gun was commissioned by the “GS Electric” companies employees. They wanted to give a custom carved gun with the companies logo to their boss Gary Sorensen.

The “G & S” and the lightening bolt is a white composite ivory inlayed, along with the yellow which is also composite ivory inlay. I carved the white first, making it stand up higher then the rest of the gun. Then I carved the yellow flush with the gun stock. Yes, it was a challenge to not hit the white while carving the yellow.

The Gary’s signature was added and inlayed to match his company name. The date his business was opened was also included under the logo. The employees who purchased this for Gary had me add their initials to the grip of the gun. Something to remember them by.

After completing the carving and inlay. The gun did not look complete, (see the above picture). The word “Electric” did not stand out like it should. You see, at first I did not paint the letters of “Electric”. Originally the employees wanted the word “Electric” to be black along with the date the company was established and their initials. After the gun was finished, you could not see the full name of the company. So, I hand painted the letters of the word “Electric” white but made sure the paint went down deep in the gun. I did not inlay this part of the gun. I think it gives the gun the depth needed to complete the scene. The first picture at the top of this page will show you the final results.

I’m sure this gun will be hung on the wall of their business for years to come. It is a very unique one of a kind addition to any gun enthusis’ collection. Merry Christmas Gary! I hope you enjoy your gun. Deb

Winchester 30-30, Model 94 Classic

Happy New Years everyone!!! I sure hope everyone has enjoyed this holiday season. Today I have been thinking about the goals I would like to accomplish with my custom carved gun stocks this year. In doing so, it has given me a chance to looked back on the goals I have accomplished last year. It still amazes me how many goals I was accomplished. So, for this reason I am going to set goals for my custom carving even higher this year. The first one is to attend 3 major gun shows within this year.

I am scheduled to be a vendor at the upcoming Las Vegas Antique Arms Show™International Sporting Arms Show™ Invitational Knifemakers Showing™ in Las Vegas NV. The show will be held at the Riviera Hotel on January 14th thru January 16th, 2011. The show is being sponsored by the NRA (National Rifle Association). I will be there with several of the guns I have listed here on my web site. Some of the other guns being displaying have been borrowed from my customers who love to show them off. This Las Vegas Antique Arms Show™ International Sporting Arms Show™ Invitational Knifemakers Show™ should prove to be the best of the year. I am looking forward to meeting many new people.

Gun collectors and enthusis’ alike will be there. As I’m sure you know by  now, my gun stocks are all hand carved/engraved and hand painted. Each design has first been molded into clay then many practice pieces are carved/engraved before I start on the final piece. This process helps me to insure the custom carving will look exactly like it should on each gun stock. Customers who have purchased wood sculpting/carving/engraving from me in the past are simply amazed at the detail and clarity each piece has. Come to the gun show and judge for yourself. Then you can see why everyone who looks at the pictures on my web site all say “the pictures do not do justice to the art on the guns.” Wouldn’t you like to hand down your guns from generations to generation?

If you have the chance to come to the Las Vegas Antique Arms Show™International Sporting Arms Show™ Invitational Knifemakers Show™, please look me up. I would really enjoy meeting you and placing your name on my waiting. Then you will also have bragging rights and can show everyone your own custom carved gun stock.

Happy New Year to all, Deb

Custom Carved Greener Replica Coach Gun

Custom Carved Greener Replica Coach Gun

Last gun of the year for me is the custom carved Greener replica coach gun. After carving/sculpting the W. W. Greener replica stage coach gun last December, I really wanted to do a coach gun for myself. Well, here is it! This stage coach is an abandon stage coach. It symbolizes how we are loosing out past. The history of the Wells Fargo Stage Lines are written in our history book an in the movies. It is sad to see  how these beautiful works of machinery are all but gone now. Thank goodness for Wells Fargo and their willingness to preserve the history and maintain their fleet of stage coaches. At least our children will have the opportunity to visit their museum to learn about them. As well as, being able to see the horses hooked up to these beautiful coaches. Thank you Wells Fargo!

As you can see I have hand carved the stage coach onto this coach gun. I have chosen not to add the basket weave to this gun. I have hand painted the gun stock to bring out even more of the detail. I am adding this gun to my collection of Wells Fargo Commemorative collection. Gun collectors and enthuses alike will appreciate the detail of this gun. This gun and many of my other guns will be on display at the Antique Arms show in Las Vegas this coming January. The show will be January 14 – 16, 2010 at the Riviera Casino in Las Vegas, NV. I look forward to visiting with you there. Happy Holidays to everyone! Deb

Winchester 30-30, Model 94 classic

I thought I would start something new this year. I am going show all the guns I have completed each year. So bare with me while I list them all for you to view again. Each client I have carved a gun stock for this year can now show them off again. Its your turn to brag on your gun stock carving! Here you can show off your custom carved, hand painted art work I have carved for you.

Custom carved Winchester 7MM Mag

Each gun has been custom carved or (custom engraving) and hand painted to bring out the detail. There is no two guns alike! All of the guns have gone up in value after being carved. Gun collectors and appraisers will tell you the gun has doubles and even triples in price. Some have grown even more in value. Still, all of the clients I have carved for this year tell me their gun will never leave their hands. They will be handed down through the generations. What a legacy they will leave for their children.

If you are thinking of having a gun custom carved for a friend, client or family member. Contact me soon. I also have gift certificates available. Gift certificates make the best gifts. The person receiving the gift certificate for the custom carving can chose what they would like on their gun stock.

Again, enjoy your Thanksgiving and remember to drive safely. We all want you around for the rest of this Holiday season and the next! Happy Carving Deb L

Custom Carved Weatherby Mark V

Custom Carved Weatherby Mark V

This is a very unique custom carved Weatherby Mark V gun stock. As you can see, this gun has been designed, custom carved, and hand painted with the beautiful “Martha Lisa” iris. This flower was developed by the owners in-laws and named after the owners wife. I have always wanted to carve flowers on a gun. Now I have and it has turned out as beautiful as I had hoped it would. I have carved the Iris along with oak leaves. The forend and grip of this gun already had oak leaves laser cut into the gun. The owner wanted me to carry this theme to the rest of the gun. This gun will be used on the upcoming deer hunt scheduled for this weekend and next. Gun collectors and enthusiast’s will be very envious of this gun. The value has increased to over double the guns value after having this gun stock custom carved. This gun will be hung in a place of honor, after the last deer hunt that is. I’m sure this gun will be handed down from generation to generation.

Good luck on the hunt!!! I’m sure you will get a big one!

Recently I posted a blog with the history of this gun. If you missed this post, you can read it again. Here is the link for the history on this gun.  Link for the Weatherby Mark V history: http://deblindsaystudios.com/custom-carved-weatherby-mark-v/

Your comments are greatly appreciated. You may leave them below. Thanks for visiting my blog page and for checking out my other web pages. Have a GREAT Thanksgiving holiday! Deb

Custom Carved Savage 308

Custom Carved Savage 308

Just finished, a custom carved Savage 308 rifle. This is a Christmas present for a friends wife. I have carved the Hawaiian flower (Hibiscus) with an Alaskan moose. I have also included the basket weave on the forend and grip of this gun stock. I have added accents to the grip (moose horn) and forend (Hibiscus flower). All of the custom carved art work is hand painted to enhance the detail. If this gun was appraised today it would appraise for $3700.00. Gun collectors would give their eye to have this gun in their collection. I’m sure this gun will be handed down from mother to daughter.

This gun has been discontinued years ago. I have included the history of the Savage arms rifle Model 99F. I hope you enjoy reading about this gun.

The Savage 99 was preceeded by the Savage 1895, which was the first hammerless lever-action rifle produced. Read the rest of this entry »

Custom Carved Wells Fargo Stagecoach Shotgun

Custom Carved Wells Fargo Stagecoach Shotgun

I recently was asked to show the process of carving a gun stock. Below is pictures of how this is accomplished. I have custom carved this W. W. GreenerShotgun replica last December. This was a Christmas gift for her husband. You can read the history of this gun as well as the history of the manufacturer by going to the following link: http://deblindsaystudios.com/carved-greener-shotgun/ or this one: http://deblindsaystudios.com/w-w-greener-shotgun/,

For your information, I have not included the clay mold or the many many practice pieces I did before carving this gun. I believe I carved twelve samples before I liked what I came up with. This is the final process of how I custom carved a gun stock.

After I have found my subject, designed the pattern, developed it in clay then carved twelve practice models of this pattern. I finally was ready to put the pattern onto the gun stock. This photo shows one of the ways I put a pattern on the gun. I first cover the entire gun to protect it from any unforeseen problems. Then put the pattern I intend on carving on the gun. I then carve the pattern into the gun stock.

This picture shows how the pattern is carved into the gun stock, the background being removed and the shaping of each character.

This photo shows the detail that has been carved into the gun stock. This is the last step before sealing the gun stock back up and hand painting the gun.

Here is the completed gun stock. I have custom carved the stagecoach into the butt of the gun then hand painted the design to bring out even more detail.

This is another picture of the completed gun stock showing how the design fits on the gun.

This is the full view of the gun  with the Wells Fargo Stagecoach. This gun belonged to a Great Great Great grandson of a gunmen that worked for Wells Fargo Stage Lines. He told me the family story of his great great great grandfather and how he worked for them all those years ago. This is why his wife asked me to carve this scene onto this gun for his Christmas present.

I did not carve the basket weave or anything else onto this gun. I felt it would have detracted from the original design of the gun. This gun is one of the only coach guns made in the United States. I hope you have enjoyed seeing how I design, carve and paint my clients guns. I’m sure each will be handed down from generations to generations. They are one of a kind works of art. I strive hard to make sure I do not make two guns alike.

I look forward to carving a custom design for you. Please contact me so we can begin working on your gun! Happy Carving!!!! Deb
